HC Deb 25 February 1986 vol 92 c488W
Mr. Fatchett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the practice of his Department's urban housing renewal units regarding notification to the local authority's elected members if they are to visit housing estates in their areas.

Sir George Young

The Department's letters to chief executives of local authorities offering a visit by the urban housing renewal unit made it clear that the unit would be glad to meet with elected members if they so wish. It is for the local authorities to decide on the extent to which elected members should be involved in the unit's visits.

Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will now formally notify Portsmouth city council of its entitlement to submit a bid for urban aid; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

I shall answer this question shortly.
