§ Mr. WhitneyInitial responsibility for monitoring Basildon and Thurrock district health authority and the services it provides rests with the North East Thames regional health authority. Regional health authorities are held accountable by the Secretary of State for Social Services, in particular through the regional review and regional performance review processes, for the health care provision within their regions.
