asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will lift the current moratorium on his Department's grant-aid for the development of additional after-care hostels for offenders.

Mr. Mellor

While the recently established study of the after-care grant and approved hostels schemes is in progress, it would be premature to take decisions on the long-term funding of accommodation in the community for offenders and ex-offenders, including any programme for the development of additional after-care hostels.
