§ Mr. TraceyThe Local Government Reorganisation (Designation of Staff) Order 1986 was made on 7 February and was laid before Parliament today. It designates approximately 120,000 staff of the GLC and metropolitan counties for transfer, on their existing terms and conditions, to successor authorities—mainly ILEA and the joint authorities for police and fire and civil defence. My right hon. Friend expects to make a supplementary order at the end of this month; and all successor authorities have been invited to submit requests for any further staff they wish to be transferred to them.
The future is now clear for these staff and the Government look to successor authorities to make their further decisions on recruitment as soon as possible.
