§ Sir George YoungThe next step is to recast the access regulations in schedule 2 to the Building Regulations 1985 into the functional form of the rest of the regulations. A draft requirement and a supporting approved document giving practical guidance are being prepared for public consultation.
When the British Standards Institution has finalised its comprehensive code of practice on means of escape for disabled people, we will be consulting publicity on extending the scope of the access requirements to a wider range of buildings.
