§ 35. Mr. Weetchasked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will undertake a review of post-costing arrangements within his Department.
§ Mr. Norman LamontPost-costing is undertaken in accordance with arrangements agreed between the Government and the Confederation of British Industry in 1968. The arrangements are reviewed by the independent review board for Government contracts at each of its triennial reviews, the latest of which was in1984. In addition, the incidence of post-costing is considered each year by the Ministry when drawing up its programme of contracts to be post-costed. The Committee of Public Accounts was told in evidence on 18 November 1985 (Production Costs of Defence Equipment) that the Ministry intended to increase the volume of post-costing, and action to achieve that aim is in hand.
