§ Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received about the future of the Liverpool philharmonic hall; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. TraceyMy right hon. Friend has received several representations about the future of the Liverpool philharmonic hall. Under the main property transfer order the hall is transferred to Liverpool city council as functional successor, but my right hon. Friend is prepared to consider the alternative of temporary transfer to the residuary body for onward transmission to a trust if this can be made financially viable, and subject to the outcome of consultation with Liverpool. I understand that there is now a good prospect of this, and officials of the Office of Arts and Libraries have therefore written to Liverpool asking the council for its views on the proposal by 14 February.
