HL Deb 04 February 1986 vol 470 c1128WA
Lord Ezra

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Further to the question at col. 1074, 15th January 1986, how the United Kingdom's public sector capital spending, excluding defence, compares with that of France, the Federal Republic of Germany, and Italy in terms of absolute amounts and as a percentage of GDP.

Lord Young of Graffham

United Kingdom public sector capital spending in 1985–86 as set out in Table 1.14 of the 1986 public expenditure White Paper, but excluding defence capital expenditure, is estimated at £15,663 million. This represents 4.4 per cent. of GDP. Comparative data on this definition of public sector capital spending are not available for France, the Federal Republic of Germany or Italy.
