§ Mr. Chris PattenLevels of teacher staffing are the responsibility of local education authorities, which alone have up-to-date information on posts filled. Pupil-teacher ratios within primary and secondary schools in the Liverpool education authority were 20.6:1 and 15.8:1, respectively, in January 1985. The equivalent figures for England were 22.1:1 and 16.1:1. More detailed information in respect of individual schools could not be provided without disproportionate cost.
