§ 17. Mr. Sternasked the Secretary of State for Transport to what extent his Department monitors the effects of road safety schemes instituted by local authorities on the advice of the transport and road research laboratory.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyTRRL has joined local authorities in Bradford, Bristol, Nelson, Reading and Sheffield to design schemes to improve urban safety. Responsibility for their implementation lies with the local highway authority. Technical and statistical monitoring is integral to the schemes, and will be carried out by the TRRL as part of the Department's research programme.
