Mersey Barrage

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on future policy towards the proposed Mersey barrage.

The report on the Mersey barrage has been received by my Department and it is being studied carefully. I will consider seriously any proposals for taking the work forward.

Mr. Wareing

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he plans to make public funding available in connection with the proposed Mersey barrage; and if he will make a statement.

My Department has recently received a copy of the Mersey barrage report and is studying it with interest. I understand that further support for the project is being sought in the private and public sector, and I will consider any proposals carefully.
