HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 c32W
Mr. Rooker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his reply of 15 January, Official Report, column 574, how many WCs were in the Normanby three-bedroomed and the Ormesby two-bedroomed houses, respectively, at the Spencerbeck estate in Langbaurgh (i) before and (ii) after refurbishment.

Mr. John Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 23 January 1986, c. 298]: I regret that my reply of Wednesday 15 January, Official Report, columns 574–76, was incorrect. This was because of changes to the details of the refurbishment scheme following the approval of urban development grant.

"Ormesby" and "Normanby" are names given by the developer to the refurbished two-bedroomed and three-bedroomed houses. The Ormesby, which has two WCs, is formed either by the conversion of an existing two-bedroomed house or by the conversion of a three-storey, four-bedroomed house to two storeys with two bedrooms. In the case of the former there is a gain of one WC whilst in the latter the number of WCs remains the same. The Normanby house previously had two WCs but, as a result of conversion, will lose one of these in order to provide improved downstairs circulation and more space in the living room.

The details of the internal refurbishment proposed by the developer were not a material factor in the decision to approve urban development grant.
