HC Deb 03 February 1986 vol 91 c64W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has consulted the Secretary General of the United Nations over United Nations resolution 37/30 concerning East Timor.

Mr. Renton

No. But there is contact at official level and we continue to follow developments on East Timor closely. As my right hon. and learned Friend the Member for Edinburgh, Pentlands (Mr. Rifkind) told the hon. Member for Birkenhead (Mr. Field) on 28 October 1985, at column359, we support the efforts of the UN Secretary General to promote contacts between the Indonesian and Portuguese Governments aimed at achieving a just settlement in East Timor.
