asked the Paymaster General how many in the Stockton, North constituency who have filled in form UB671 have had benefit refused since the inception of the form.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The Stockton unemployment benefit offices introduced the revised procedure for availability testing on 17 November 1986. At 5 December 1986, the last date for which information is available, three claimants at those offices had been disallowed benefit by the independent adjudicating authorities because they were not available for work and therefore, under longstanding legal rules, not entitled to benefit.

asked the Paymaster General how many in the Liverpool Riverside constituency who have filled in form UB671 have been subsequently refused benefit since the form was introduced.

The unemployment benefit offices in the Liverpool, Riverside constituency introduced the revised procedures for availability testing on 10 November 1986. At 5 December 1986, the last date for which information is available, one claimant had been disallowed benefit following completion of UB671 as the person concerned was not available for work and therefore, under long-standing legal rules, not entitled to benefit.
