HC Deb 16 December 1986 vol 107 c482W
Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the answer of 8 December to the hon. Member for Leicester, East, Official Report, columns 77–78, regarding unclaimed vehicles, for how long unclaimed vehicles are held; how they are disposed of; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Where a vehicle which has been removed to a car pound is not claimed within seven days, the police follow the procedures laid down in the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986. A notice is sent to the address of the last known keeper of the vehicle, and where no response is received within the next 21 days further enquiries are undertaken. If no claim is made, vehicles are sold through auction or for scrap approximately eight weeks after removal.
