Mr. David Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many motorists were charged with drink-driving offences in the latest year for which figures are available; how many of these were convicted; and of those convicted how many had previous convictions for similar offences.

In 1985, 12,514 persons were proceeded against for drunk driving, of whom 12,269 had the charge proved against them. Statistics on previous convictions are not available.
