HC Deb 16 December 1986 vol 107 c482W
Mr. Clay

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to the reply to the hon. Member for Aldridge-Brownhills (Mr. Shepherd) of 8 December, Official Report, column 82, what information he has as to whether Dr. Black's recollection of his conversation with Dr. Skuse in May 1975 is also supported by a contemporaneous note; and if he will say when he first received this information.

Mr. Mellor

On 1 December my right hon. Friend received from my hon. Friend the Member for Harborough (Sir J. Farr) various documents relating to the review of the safety of the convictions in the Birmingham pub bombings case. These included a transcript of the "World in Action" programme to be broadcast that evening in which Dr. Black refers to notes which he took when he saw Dr. Skuse. Also included was an affidavit by Dr. Black in which he refers to having noted at the time his coversation with Dr. Skuse and to having summarised the details in a letter which he sent to the defence solicitors on 11 June 1975. A copy of the letter was attached to the affidavit.
