§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received in favour of an increase in the establishment for Leicestershire constabulary in addition to any savings in manpower as a result of the civilianisation of some posts.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe Leicestershire policy authority made an application in June for an increase of 110 police posts, to which I responded by saying that, before any consideration could be given to further increases in the police establishment, the force should carry out a review to identify posts held by police officers which could more appropriately be filled by civilians. I have received no representations about that response, and I understand that the review is in hand and that the police authority has approved proposals for the civilianisation of 43 posts in this financial year to release that number of police officers to operational duties.
