§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make it his policy to take the lead in securing a United Nations embargo on the supply of arms to Iran and Iraq; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. RentonNo, we do not believe it would be effective. Our own very restrictive policy on defence sales to Iran and Iraq remains unchanged. We do not sell any defence equipment to either side which could significantly enhance their capability to prolong or exacerbate the conflict.
