HC Deb 03 December 1986 vol 106 cc632-3W
Mr. Evennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the total expenditure for the recruitment of graduate entrants to the police service in England and Wales in each of the last five years.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

It is not possible to estimate the total expenditure on the recruitment of graduates to the police service in England and Wales, since this includes the time spent by members of police forces in interviewing and assessing candidates, which cannot be quantified. Expenditure by the Home Office, which is responsible for graduate recruitment advertising and literature and for the administration of the graduate entry scheme for the police service, amounted to a little under £300,000 in 1985–86. I regret that comparable figures for earlier years are not readily available.
