asked the Secretary of State for Transport what conditions as regards the inclusion of a lock for ships his Department has laid down for plans for a Severn barrage.

None, Sir. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Energy has initiated a further study to establish criteria for a Severn barrage, including the lock or locks necessary for ships. The study team will consult fully with interested parties.
