§ 15. Mr. Maplesasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on revenue subsidies for London Regional Transport.
§ Mr. MooreLRT's accounts for 1985–86 show that it reduced its need for revenue support to £97.4 million, so virtually achieving in one year the target reduction to £95 million for which we had allowed three years. Increased502W efficiency has not been won by cutting services, which are being maintained or expanded, but it has allowed more money to be spent on investment in improving the system, so that LRT has planned to increase investment from £234 million last year to £261 million during 1986–87. The overall result for London ratepayers is also satisfactory since, despite increased investment, we have been able to reduce the levy in support of LRT from 10.80p in the pound last year to 9.79p in the pound for 1986–87.
§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for Transport when he next plans to meet the chairman of London Regional Transport to discuss the quality of services.
§ Mr. MooreI would expect this to be included among the many issues which I discuss with Dr. Bright from time to time.
