HC Deb 23 April 1986 vol 96 cc166-7W
26. Mr. Leigh

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the latest figure available of council house sales under the legislation granting tenants the right to buy their rented accommodation.

Mr. John Patten

A total of 520,000 local authority and new town houses and flats had been sold in England under the right-to-buy legislation by the end of December 1985. Over the period 1979 to 1985 there have been a further 167,000 sales by agreement to sitting tenants, on terms comparable with the right to buy.
