§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for the Environment, further to the reply to the hon. Member for Carmarthen on 18 March, Official Report, column 92, what proportion of his Department's allocation of money to the reclamation of derelict land is specifically designed for the post-operative care and reclamation of dangerous waste landfill sites.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThere is no specific allocation for the reclamation of landfill sites in the derelict land programme. Applications for grant in respect of such sites will be considered on their merits, but grant will not normally be available for those which are subject to restoration conditions.
§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will detail what proportion of research and development expenditure on the land-filling of wastes is allocated to dealing with wastes covered by the special waste regulations.
§ Mr. WaldegraveIn my reply to the hon. Member on 18 March at column 92 I listed our annual research expenditure on landfilling of household and industrial 59W wastes. It is not possible to isolate the component spent on special wastes, which themselves comprise some of those generally referred to as hazardous.
