Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing estimated taxation revenue for 1986–87 in respect of (i) cars and taxis, (ii) light vans, (iii) buses and coaches, (iv) goods vehicles not over 3.5 tonnes gross weight, (v) goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes gross weight and (vi) selected classes of heavy goods vehicles.

Separate figures are not available for light vans, which are taxed with private cars. Otherwise the information requested is given in the following two tables, which also provide related estimates of road track costs.

Opportunity has been taken to simplify the tables slightly by comparison with those published last year.

Further information on motor tax revenue and track costs will be given in the Department's annual paper "The allocation of road track costs", due to be published next month.
