§ 13. Mr. Wattsasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give the latest number of exemption permits issued in connection with the lorry ban instituted by the Greater London council prior to its abolition.
§ Mr. RidleyThe GLC indicated last month that it had issued about 30,000 lorry exemption permits, and refused only four.
§ 24. Mr. Moynihanasked the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has as to whether articulated lorry trailers are covered by the lorry ban implemented by the Greater London council before its abolition; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyI understand that the GLC did not apply this ban to such trailers, which are estimated to make up 90 per cent. of London's vehicles over 16.5 tonnes. The M25 is proving an attractive alternative route for articulated vehicles and other traffic.
§ 34. Dr. Twinnasked the Secretary of State for Transport what information he has as to the latest cost of the lorry ban instituted by the Greater London council; and how many lorries he estimates have been excluded from London under the terms of the ban.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe GLC refused four applications. The figures the GLC gave last month indicate that its system cost at least £1.6 million to set up. The running costs are £0.25 million each year.
