§ Mr. TraceyNo. The Government considered this matter extensively prior to the announcement on 21 March this year by my right hon. Friend the Member for Wanstead and Woodford (Mr. Jenkin), which extended the lives of the Aycliffe and Peterlee and the Washington development corporations until 31 March 1988. It is important that the development corporations should continue to make progress towards establishing satisfactory succesion arrangements, as called for by my right hon. Friend, and uncertainty about the wind-up date would not help in this.
