HC Deb 27 November 1985 vol 87 cc598-9W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the level of spending which has been devoted by his Department towards hospital works in each of the last five years, the total capital yielded from the sale of health authority land and property and the use which has been made of this capital as a result.

Mr. Whitney

The following table shows capital expenditure by health authorities and capital receipts between 1980–81 and 1984–85. Proceeds from the sale of surplus land and property are retained by health authorities and have contributed to the continuing major programme of investment in the National Health Service estate. Details of individual hospital works are not held centrally.

Year Capital expenditure £ million Capital receipts £ million
1980–81 563.2 15.6
1981–82 671.4 19.2
1982–83 686.4 18.8
1983–84 713.9 28.5
