§ Mr. Whitney[pursuant to his reply, 19 November 1985, c. 159–60]: Between the introduction of the Mental Health Act on 30 September 1983 and the end of that year there were 3,808 compulsory admissions to NHS mental illness and mental handicap hospitals and units in England.
