§ Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what information is available to his Department about which employers have made pay deductions from teachers in dispute and which have not.
§ Sir Keith JosephI understand that all local education authorities deduct pay from teachers who take strike action. However, the teacher unions have engaged in other forms of disruption, short of strikes, in order to prosecute their pay claim. I believe that only eight authorities continue to make deductions from teachers who, although present at work, refuse to cover for absent colleagues. I understand that no LEA is making deductions in respect of any other forms of disruptive action.
