§ Mr. Giles ShawUnder the Broadcasting Act 1981, the Independent Broadcasting Authority has responsibility for entering into contracts for the provision of independent local radio programmes, and for deciding, in the light of its statutory duties, what action to take if any subsequent change in the nature of an independent local radio company takes place. My right hon. and learned Friend, has, therefore, no power to intervene in decisions that the Independent Broadcasting Authority may take in relation to the current situation in Wales, but the Government are maintaining a close interest in developments.
