§ Dr. Marekasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, giving his approval under paragraph 9 of the revised charter of the Agricultural and Food Research Council, for the salary of the director of the Welsh Plant Breeding Station, Aberystwyth, he will make it a condition that tenure of the post is expected to be for at least seven years and may not be terminated earlier except for retirement or any exceptional reason.
§ Mr. BrookeThe Agricultural and Food Research Council is an autonomous body under Royal Charter. Whilst general arrangements for the pay and conditions of service of the council's employees are subject to the approval of my right hon. Friend and the Treasury under the terms of that charter, the details of individual cases are matters for the council to determine. It is not the practice of my right hon. Friend to intervene.
