HC Deb 02 May 1985 vol 78 c213W
29. Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has had with the Channel Islands authorities regarding the use of the islands by drug traffickers.

Mr. Giles Shaw

Discussions have taken place between Home Office officials and representtives of Jersey and Guernsey in the past year on the possibility of moneys from drug activities passing through the islands; a joint meeting is to be held later this month. The possible use of the islands by drug traffickers is a matter for the islands' authorities, but at their request their police forces are inspected regularly by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary who are satisfied that suitable precautions are taken to prevent the illegal importation of drugs. There is also close liaison and co-operation between Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and the enforcement agencies in the Islands.
