§ Mr. Murphyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement in response to the petition on famine conveyed to him by the hon. Member for Welwyn Hatfield on behalf of constituents.
§ Mr. RaisonThe Government are committed to providing emergency aid to Ethiopia and other famine stricken countries throughout 1985 and beyond. As was clear at the recent Geneva conference, our partners in the European Community, other donors and United Nations agencies share that commitment. Our humanitarian assistance is given without conditions, and our policy is to provide it to those in need wherever they may be. Within the limit of the resources available, we continue to improve the volume and impact of our longer term development aid to Africa through all appropriate channels.
