Mr. Murphy

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will establish an expert committee to study patterns of disease which have a possible association with radiation.

I have today announced the establishment of such a committee. It will be chaired by Professor Lowry, head of the Department of Oncology and Cancer Studies at Queen's university, Belfast and the remaining membership will comprise Professor Bridges of the Department of Haematology, Professor Nevin of the Department of Medical Genetics and Dr. Blaney of the Department of Community Medicine, all Queen's University. The terms of reference of the committee will beto assemble and analyse epidemiological data in Northern Ireland on the patterns of disease which have a possible association with radiation".

I have asked the committee to submit a progress report by the end of March 1986.
