§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will exerise his powers under section 1(5) of the Rating (Disabled Persons) Act 1978 to increase rebates available under section 1 of the Act in the way it has been exercised in Scotland.
§ Mr. WaldegraveMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland has exercised his powers to maintain the level of relief available to disabled people in Scotland following the recent revaluation there. But there is no need for such an adjustment in England and Wales where the rateable values on which relief for disabled people is calculated remain valid for the life of the current valuation list.
