HC Deb 25 March 1985 vol 76 c7W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation in the current Session of Parliament to ban the use of lead shot by anglers.

Mr. Waldegrave

The Government believe that the use of lead shot by anglers should be phased out voluntarily if at all possible. A review of progress has recently been conducted by the Nature Conservancy Council, whose formal report is awaited. The Government will then consider whether further action is necessary, in the light of that report.
