Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many places were available in further and higher education for each of the last five years in (a) universities, (b) polytechnics and (c) other institutions; and how many and what percentage of the students concerned were studying for each category of qualification for which records are available.

[pursuant to his reply, 20 March 1985, c. 493]: The numbers and percentages of students enrolled on courses leading to qualifications for which information is readily available for each of the last five years, at universities in Great Britain and polytechnics and other colleges of further education in England in 1981 to 1983 and in England and Wales in 1979 and 1980, are given in the tables.
