HC Deb 25 March 1985 vol 76 c91W
Mrs. Clwyd

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services to what factors he attributes the fall in the numbers of teeth crowned by general dental practitioners in England and Wales in 1983.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

It is not possible to be definite, but it is very likely that the rise in the price of gold made it uneconomic for a time to prescribe gold crowns. The number of teeth crowned in 1984 however was higher than in 1982.
