§ Sir Geoffrey HoweWe welcome the national assembly and municipal elections in E1 Salvador as a further step in the consolidation of democracy there. We have good relations with E1 Salvador.
§ Mr. Cartwrightasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether Her Majesty's Government have made its offer of military aid to President Duarte of E1 Salvador conditional upon progress in the field of human rights in that country.
§ Mr. LuceThe Salvadorean Government are well aware of our general concern about human rights. President Duarte is publicly committed to ending human rights abuses, strengthening democracy and seeking national reconciliation. We support those objectives.
