§ Mr. Giles ShawThe criteria for the use of equipment in police surveillance operations, and the procedures for their authorisation, are set out in the Home Office guidelines which were issued to all chief constables in England and Wales on 19 December 1984. These guidelines are considerably more detailed and rigorous than the guidance issued in 1977, which they replace.
