§ 29. Mr. Rogersasked the Secretary of State for Transport what effect he expects the planned £48 million reduction in concessionary fares subsidies to have on concessionary fares.
§ Mrs. ChalkerSubsidies for concessionary fares are the responsibility of local authorities, which are free to determine their priorities within the resources available. In 1984–85, they chose to budget for concessionary fares expenditure in England totalling some £56 million more than the public expenditure provision. The 1985–86 provision has been maintained in real terms at the same level as in previous years.
