HC Deb 11 March 1985 vol 75 cc17-8W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to improve the marketing of Wales for tourist development purposes.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

In addition to the contribution of the private sector, the marketing of Wales as a tourist destination falls mainly to the Wales tourist board and to the British tourist authority, Cadw has a specific role in the promotion of ancient monuments. I announced arrangements in November 1983 at column529–30 for Welsh involvement in the overseas marketing of Wales and keep these under review. Most recently the British Tourist Authority has agreed to identify a budget of £100,000 in 1985–86 for joint schemes to promote Wales abroad. The Wales tourist board also promotes Wales to potential developers of tourist facilities and this work runs in parallel with the more general promotional activities of the Welsh Development Agency and the Development Board for Rural Wales.
