§ Mr. Simon Hughesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on how many occasions during each of the last five years police investigations have commenced into the commission of drug-related offences by people known or believed to be diplomats and with what effect; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MellorThere is no requirement for the police to report to my right hon. and learned Friend investigations covering diplomats which do not lead to the conclusion that an offence has been committed. Three cases have come to our attention during the past five years where there were strong indications of drug related offences by diplomats or persons with diplomatic immunity.
As to the action taken in these cases I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given today to his question by my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
