HC Deb 08 March 1985 vol 74 c629W
Mr. Millan

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what were the average sums paid in rates by domestic ratepayers in England, gross and net of rate rebates, in each year since 1977–78.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

I shall answer this question shortly.

Mr. Millan

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment in which years since 1955 there has been a rating revaluation in England.

Mr. Kenneth Baker

Revaluations in England took effect in 1956, 1963 and 1973.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he will make available the Cambridge report commissioned by his Department on the effects of business rates on the location of employment.

Mr. Waldegrave

The report itself is being published by the authors and I have today arranged for a copy to be placed in the Library.

I have also today written to interested bodies giving them copies of the report and asking for relevant information they may hold on where the burden of business rates falls, before considering whether a further study might usefully be commissioned.
