Mr. Alan Clark

The available information is from the June 1978 and the following September 1981 census of employment and is as follows:

Employees in full-time employment: Manufacturing industries
June 1978 (thousands) September 1981 (thousands)
West Midlands 916.7 743.6
Dudley and Sandwell, Wolverhampton and Walsall travel-to-work areas 268.5 213.3
Walsall travel-to-work area 65.8 55.3

As results of the 1978 census are not available for the new travel-to-work areas announced last year, information is given for the travel-to-work areas as defined before last year's review.
