§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department which regions of the United Kingdom will be able to pick up satellite television broadcasts resulting from his proposals to amend the regulations governing the reception of satellite signals.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe reception of direct broadcasting by satellite is already authorised by the broadcast receiving licence. No such services yet exist which can be received in the United Kingdom. The Government have made no decision on whether to authorise the reception by individuals of low powered satellite services, but a number of cable operators are licensed to receive and distribute such services within the United Kingdom. The signals from satellites cover a very wide area and it is to be expected that all regions in the United Kingdom would be able to receive them.
