asked the Secretary of State for Transport what are the policy priorities applying (a) to trunk roads and (b) to designated roads.

Mrs. Chalker

The approach applying to trunk roads was set out in paragraphs 3.1–3.6 of "Policy for Roads in England: 1983" (Cmnd. 9059). Policy for designated roads will be developed in consultation with borough councils.
