HC Deb 07 March 1985 vol 74 c558W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of the West Midlands concerning incidents of public disorder which occurred in Dudley street, Wolverhampton, on Wednesday 20 February; what was the cause and nature of the disturbance; how many persons were involved; how many were arrested; whether there were any injuries; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Giles Shaw

My right hon. and learned Friend understands from the chief constable of West Midlands that the disturbance in Dudley street on 20 February occurred when four officers were arresting two youths. A crowd of about 60 people tried to intervene and the disorder spread to a nearby store, before ending after a further 25 officers had arrived. There were 22 arrests and five police officers were injured. No injuries to members of the public were reported to the police.
