Ms. Clare Shortasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he has considered the proposals sent to him by the Association of Directors of Social Services that he should expand his special employment measures by the establishment of supplementary employment grant to allow for the employment of additional staff to care for the elderly, the sick, the physically and mentally handicapped, the mentally ill and other needy groups.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonMy right hon. Friend, together with a number of other Ministers, received a copy of the Association of Directors of Social Services' letter of 14 January to the Prime Minister. We consider very carefully all suggestions to help unemployed people including whether they appear to offer a more cost-effective use of taxpayers' money than our existing employment measures.
